love thursday and longhorns!

A friend of mine sent me an email this week and it had this amazing quote as part of her signature. I've been really overwhelmed with work for the past few weeks and I can't tell you how helpful it was to read this:

It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.

--Brother David Steindl-Rast

I've been searching for joy rather than practicing gratitude. I can always find gratitude when I stop and really see my kids and Steve, and when I make time for creativity (photography, making little movies, listening to music, etc.).

I'm celebrating Love Thursday with this sweet little video that I made. I took these pictures of Charlie on our front porch and the music is "The Eyes of Texas" by the University of Texas Longhorn Marching Band (of course).

I'm so grateful for this little Longhorn! Hook 'em!

Brene, as often your timing is wonderful.
It is gratitude that makes us joyful and I try to remind myself of the importance of gratitude every day- even on the days when it's not easy.

(And as an Aggie I will still acknowledge Charlie's charm)

Glad you found time for a little creativity and gratitude - but I'm with Laurel - GO RAIDERS!

It's "wear red" day to school today for Red Ribbon Drug Free week - and my girls have their Raider gear on. Their principle is a Longhorn, so they'll walk around all day with their guns up and their horns down, and he will do just the opposite.

Happy Friday and Happy Halloween!

oops - Principal, principle, what's the difference right?

How cool is that?

Wonderful modeling job on Charlie's part.

I am a quote collector. I love quotes. And, I just have to tell you, I'm not sure I've ever read a better quote. Certainly not one so timely.

Just wanted to say, "Thanks. I needed that."

Great quote!

I have recently been reflecting on 'joy' myself. That is actually the topic of the last post on my blog.

I have been trying to appreciate/feel grateful for the hidden treasures of each day that I often overlook when I get to caught up with crossing off another item on my to-do list.

I used to have this Word document that I would add quotes too when ever I found one that I liked. It was a form of therapy when I was getting a divorce. By the time I finished it was over 30 pages. Some quotes repeated themselves throughout the pages. But I always found it interesting to see what quotes were important to me when I first left as opposed to further along the path. It was a great way for me to see how far I had come. I now have two favorite quotes. This one, which is now in my email signature and one that appeared throughout my quotes therapy.

Sometimes staying makes you stronger, sometimes it is letting go.

For the life of me I cannot remember who is the author of that quote.
