I'm totally addicted to this Houston band. I recently met Eric, the incredibly talented trumpet player - very cool guy. The sound is new and old and just awesome. I love this entire album. "Maybe It's True" is haunting to me.

bulls and horses and shame, oh my!

If you have a few spare minutes and you're really interested in how we talk down here, this is the video for you! Rated PG for language. BTW - if you take your cursor off of the video, it doesn't show the messy stuff. Hope this answers all of your great questions. I'll miss the very weird emails.

Thanks for the explanation, Brene! :) I love that in Texas it's three syllables. :)

LOVE this! As a recent transplant to Texas, I need to know these things.
Oh yeah, LOVE it! I especially appreciated that you stayed with us even after the doorbell rang! ;-) I always enjoy hearing you tell your stories...and as you do, you tend to fall more deeply into those Texan roots. Beautiful

I am listening to your video when Maggie pipes in, "Is that Mrs. Brene? Why is she talking about anger?" I go on and listen to the whole thing...while she does her homework. Nice.

Sooo hillarious! I loved the illustrative photos and the definitions. The magazine photo commentary was spot on. And yes, as someone said, the fact you kept with us even with your doorbell ringing, that was the icing on the cake! Hope you will look to do more of these films in the future! Thanks so much for the best laugh I've had in a long time.

I, too, am a transplant Texan, for the time being. But I done grewed up in Wyoming and I must impose that the inherent difference between horseshit and bullshit, while not universal, is not strictly a Texan concept...it's simply small town street smarts burned into the brains of small children during the critical period of development as knowledge that is clearly an important understanding to adequately participate and thrive in the society that surrounds you...

I think you did a fine job promoting the differentiation for those who unfortunately missed out on a cultural phenomenon of regional dialect. I commend that. Well done.

There's got to be some way to put the sound of your voice doing horseshit in 3 syllables to good use. 'Cause that sound is pure bliss.

Thank you for including me -- and our one-horned bull, whose name is in fact Horn -- in the video!

xoxo!

What a great explanation. As a dyed in the wool Texan (or small town country girl - as Nicole points out) I laughed and inherently KNEW the difference when you mentioned it the first time, but I'm not sure I could have explained it to someone else.

And OMG - I'm picturing you seeing that picture for the first time - and guessing maybe it was even a 4 syllable utterance at that point - just for added emphasis.

ok, you are brilliant! such a great post!! i cannot believe that article image- WTF? thank you for that! it was great!

OMG - I laughed so hard............ as a small town country girl and an Australian - I thought why in the heck is she explaning the difference - isn't it obvious??? Clearly not, sooo funny!
I too an VERY fond of the word horseshit and have only stopped using it because my 4yr old was copying me......
Clearly Australian's and Texans have a whole lot in common!

Having lived in Tennessee and having good friends in Texas I totally understand the difference. But I still got a hoot out of your podcast. I needed the laugh.

FABULOUS!!!! Loved hearing your voice and absolutely LOVED the subject - Especially since this Texas girl is currently living in GA! Definitely sharing this with some of my new GA friends : ) so they can be educated too! As always - you Rock Brene and that's no BS!
