f.u.n. + pnn

Taken by freaked-out (but good-natured) stranger. I'm really trying to walk the Wholehearted talk over here. After my TGIS post, I regrouped and retreated into some serious self-care. I've watched enough NCIS and Law & Order episodes to chill out, but not so many that I fell into a crime show coma. I've had a facial and a manicure. I've been walking with a good friend every morning and I stocked up on healthy food. I've even enjoyed cooking (always a good sign).

And . . . on Sunday . . . our little family ventured out for our first "family movie."

When your kids are 6 years apart, it's a long wait until everyone is ready to sit for 2 hours and enjoy the same flick. We saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs in 3D. It was fun. The book is a must read!

Interestingly, Charlie had a very strong reaction to one scene where the lead character was wrestling with some serious shame. He said, "I didn't like the sad, scary part." I thought he was talking about one of the chases or wild action scenes, but when I asked him about it he said, "The part where the boy got in the trash can and didn't like himself." I agree.

In other news . . . I've been invited to facilitate a 5-week course over at PNN. It's such a wonderful community - I'm thrilled. We just started today so if you want to jump over and join us, please do! If you've ever thought about blogging but weren't sure, this is a great place to start. They have templates that make it very user-friendly. If you're just interested in following-along, that's great too.

It's turkey taco night so I'm off to make the guacamole! Just an FYI - my spellcheck really wants to change guacamole to carmagnole - what the hell is that?

Hope you're enjoying some self-care this week! Take a load off and enjoy some chips and carmagnole.

That Charlie is an amazing kid! I love him so much and haven't even met him!

Just took a nap - FYI.

Good for you Brene'! I am taking good care of myself also. After years of abuse, I am finally putting space between myself and my abusive father. For years it was an issue of shame and guilt but I have finally freed myself to be true to my spirit and take care of my self.
My husband and I are taking a trip to the mountains for spiritual renewal and to see the aspens change color.
I love reading your blog and now am reading on PNN.

Thanks again, Brene, for sharing this journey with us at PNN - and I can confirm, it is a very cool community of fabulous women (and some men)!

I also think its fantastic that your own authenticity is rubbing off on Charlie...I hope that I can raise my boys to be open and wholehearted!!
Thank you for sharing this super photo!

as a google fanatic, I just had to look up carmagnole. Apparently a short jacket with wide lapels... I prefer guacamole myself!

happy happy wednesday!

That's so funny. I'm a dictionary.com fanatic.

I looked up carmagnole too.

1. a dance and song popular during the French Revolution.
2. a man's loose jacket with wide lapels and metal buttons, worn during the French Revolution.
3. the costume of the French revolutionists, consisting chiefly of this jacket, black pantaloons, and a red liberty cap.

Then I wanted to see the dance and/or hear the song.

I watched the song on YouTube.

The comments on YouTube were very passionate (although they were all in French and I only remember 8 words after 5 years of French). I did recognize the words "brutal" and "shit" - which prompted more exploration.

It's been a great way to put off cleaning the kitchen and now I know a little bit more about the French Revolution.

CRaZy!

Thanks for the inspiration... might try to do this very same thing on our rainy Sunday tomorrow. We've never taken our 11 and almost 5 year old (yes, the same age difference!) to a movie together.
