ordinary courage e-course
Join us for the last OC class of 2011, as we discover how feelings of shame get in the way and how we can learn to transform shame into an opportunity to practice authenticity and to cultivate connection.
Learn about the power of owning our story and the path that unfolds when we decide to cultivate shame-resilience instead of allowing shame to send us into hiding, numbing, perfectionism, or lashing out.
Experiment with opening up to self-compassion as we share in hands-on weekly activities designed to help us make that long journey from "What will people think" to "I am enough."
Class details:
• 6-week access to a password-protected classroom
• Six recorded audio conversations with Brené and Jen Lemen, outlining the keys to shame resilience
• Weekly lessons, activities and reflections designed to help you uncover your own ordinary courage
• A working knowledge of what triggers shame and how to respond with courage, compassion, and connection
• An invitation to embrace your own ordinary courage and vulnerability as a vital part of Wholehearted Living

This is an important question. I think therapy is always helpful for navigating family of origin issues. I would either do both or just therapy. eCourses are wonderful, but no substitute for in-person connection.
Can you please give me an idea of the time commitment necessary to fully benefit from the course? I want to make sure that I will have the time to fully immerse myself in the course prior to signing up.
Thanks! Karen
Karen - There are no "real time" commitments. You can go at your own pace. The weekly readings and assignments probably take 1-2 hours per week. The bigger demand is being emotionally present and that varies by person.
I think the biggest thing that hit me was just how huge a responsibility parenting is, and how we need to work on our own shame stuff to protect our children from it (or I guess it's really about helping them cope with it), and that's why I'm signing up for this e-course. I'm also looking forward to your parenting book! What's the title going to be?
I have a question. Is it just parents who have such a big impact or is it grandparents too? My mom spends a ton of time with my kids - possibly more than my husband, even. (She's basically our nanny, just without the pay, which of course I'm very thankful for.). Should I somehow be encouraging her to work on her shame issues? I'm already very attuned to the language she uses with them, like "you have to be a good boy if you want Grandma to read to you", which doesn't sound too bad but would be so easy for her to adjust.
I'm in the process of reading "I thought it was just me" and then next on my list is "Gifts". I was hoping to have finished them by today but I find I need to read them in small bites - I'm still working up to those long hikes!
Anyway, thanks again. I really appreciated your "real-ness" ("authenticity" seems too cliché) and your sense of humour.
And here's that picture I showed you this morning (books committing suicide) - http://images.dailydawdle.com/jersey-shore1.jpg.

Stay well.
I live in the UK, and was wondering if the material is available for us Brits! Firstly, would I be able to pay for it (probably, yes), but then, can I get the DVD etc in a format that I can watch over here (I think perhaps not!). Any tips? Thank you!
Great blog. I'm getting the books soon too - no formatting issues with those!
Emma
it would be nice if the lessons were translated also in Italian.
Today i buy on line your book. I have a blog and i take the courage to write in italian and english (a lot of mistakes) :) but this is my desire and the meaning of life: to live.
Slowly slowly i read one page at time.:)
Thank you very much
