one little word for 2012

My good friend Ali Edwards has me hooked on the power of One Little Word. I started thinking about my word a couple of weeks ago and I had a great word in mind but it just wasn't sticking.

I didn't want light to be my word, but it turns out that I didn't really have a choice. Light has been finding its way into my life everyday since the new year. Last week I looked up at the inspiration board above my desk and light was in every quote pinned to my board.

"There's a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." -- Leonard Cohen

This year my word picked me. I'm not messing with that! Let it shine!

What's your word this year?

I've been spending a lot of time thinking of what my 2012 word will be. For so long, I've put others and their needs first. So this year, my word is "Me."
01.8.2012 | Unregistered CommenterLaura
Mine is "shift". I wasn't crazy about mine right away, either, but it's the one that stuck :)

Love.

And I questioned it as well. And it is, quite literally, everywhere this year. It's meant to be love, whether I understand the choice or not!
01.8.2012 | Unregistered CommenterEm
mine is light as well! quotes and scripture and book themes seemed to throw the word into my lap. looking forward to seeing how it take shapes for you this year!

OPEN

It is a reminder to behave the complete opposite of how I feel right now :) I'd far rather "turtle" - crawl under the covers and let everything happen around me. Fingers crossed - let's see if it works!

Nurture. After a really hard and sudden loss in 2011 I started learning a lot more abOut myself and (with the help of your books) how big a part shame has been playing in my life. This year I want to continue to nurture myself and the ongoing grief process, nurture the changes I've made so far in addition to of course nurturing my family, my marriage, and the relationships I have with those I love.

'Inspiration' in both being open to receive inspiration and respecting the fact that I am an inspiration to others!

I love how your word ' found ' you this year and you listened.

Truth. Mine picked me, too. You can read about it here: http://smallsteps2giantleaps.blogspot.com/2011/12/one-little-word-for-2012.html

'light' is beautiful... and a positive focus for when we feel the darkness come creeping in...

for the past couple of years, mine was 'nascent'... it wasn't ready to be put aside after one year... but this year is different... for my word is now 'transcend'... it makes me feels lighter and stronger just thinking on it...

I know how words "find" you. My word also chose me this year....my word is EMBRACE, and I want to embrace all aspects of me and my life this year.

My word for this year is "Focus" - my reasons can be found on my blog here: http://cheriandrews.blogspot.com/2012/01/one-little-word-blog-hop-january.html

My word is Action. I'm done with ruminating - it's time for me to start taking action. First step: publish a book.

BTW - THANK YOU for the bookplate! I had completely forgotten that I'd submitted my name for one, and it was such a nice surprise when it arrived in the mail.

Nature. I have been learning to follow my nature, and will continue to do so in 2012. I am an introvert; so I will not pretend to be an extrovert. I dislike shopping and will not pretend I love it to please others. You get the picture.

My word is SIMPLIFY. Not just my closets and wardrobe, but my way of living. Love God, love people. Stop over complicating. Your input in living wholeheartedly has been instrumental in that.

My word is Abundance. My phrase for the year is Living in the Key of F (faith)

NOW. My word is NOW. As in no more excuses, no more apologies, no more sugar-coated-pretty-please-simon-says-mother-may-I.

My word is kindness. To be kinder to myself most of all.

I'm going through very stressful changes in my life in many ways. I heard a whisper from my aunt who died many years ago. Yesterday, I learned of her daughter's passing.

My aunt's message to me: Bend.

Mine is "LET GO" - I wasn't exactly sold on it at first either...but it's so dang fitting for everything right now. "When I let my defenses go blessings came running." —Macrina Weiderkehr

PRACTICE!
Mine is actually a statement: Be Brave. I suppose I could distill it to just "Brave" but that doesn't speak to me. "Be Brave" found me like "Light" found you and kept popping up, letting me know that, yep, this is what I am about in 2012. It found me late last year, so I've gotten a small head start. It didn't want me to wait, apparently.
01.9.2012 | Unregistered CommenterKelly
Humility for 2012. For the longest time I thought humiliation and humility were related. Truth is, they just happen to share a few letters. My mantram: Help me to see myself as you see me Lord.
01.9.2012 | Unregistered Commentermark
Mine is SHIMMER. I've chosen three little words for the last several years (inspired by your blog post a while back), but this year only one word has stuck. How funny that's what you posted. Soooooo, I'm going with one little word.

Also, Brenè, check out Bob Schneider's song, "Let the Light In." I think you'll like it and it goes with your theme!

Grace.
Much like your experience with light, it made a decision of its own.

I have two that go hand in hand; INVITATION and STEP. They're subtle but powerful shifts for me. To gently invite and (instead of pushing away), and equally gently step into. A request and action. They seem to be working miracles so far! x
01.9.2012 | Unregistered CommenterKate
Mine is ACCEPTANCE - acceptance of myself, the changes that are happening in my life and of other people!

FREEDOM )

funny. i visited the discount store on Friday. bought the letters in the craft section. the smaller ones. i hold them. arrange them. move them around. display them differently. photograph them.

i absorb them daily
Last year my word was adventure.. this year 3 words chose me.. they are money (which has been flowing in & out of my life since Jan 1st, Got a free $60 windshield repair 2 days ago. The second word is marriage, which has been coming up around me everywhere, friends, emails, posts,, even though at I am single and it seems so silly to have this word as a part of my words for this year. The final word for this year is ME .. the importance of making me... a priority in my own life.. because before now.. my life has always been about everyone else first. I have this feeling its going to be an amazing year.

Mine is BE.

Calm, peaceful, patient. Not anxious about the future. Be present today, aware, mindful, and live with intention.

Be 100% me. Embracing myself as I am and stop feeling that I need to change myself to please others, do things that gain their favor.

Thank you for allowing us to share and inspiring us to live a wholesome, fulfilled life.

I've cheated somewhat, but my theme for this year is 'Show Up.' So two little words.

Every year I've realised the same things I've been meaning to do haven't happened - because I didn't show up to make them happen. Not this year!

Shift. That's what I've been experiencing so far this year. And that's what I have this year will be about.

the word that chose me this year...ease. wanted something sexier or more spiritual, but alas, ease is the universe's invitation for 2012. may your year be light-soaked.

Mine is fearless. It has been following me since last year. I am usually fearful of taking the first step or going outside my comfort zone. Mostly because I'm fearful of the attention and of what others would think. Not anymore!!! This is my year to be fearless and conquer new territories. It also means to be true to myself - a concept I have struggled with for a long time.
01.9.2012 | Unregistered Commenterclaudia
I picked a few, but one definitely picked me: home.

Wishing you a wonderful year!

This is my fourth year coming up with a word and I am still thinking about it but am gravitating towards OPEN (being Open to possibilities, change, nochange) also maybe STILL (as in be still and listen and God (your inner conscience, etc..) will speak to you.
My other words were:
2009: AUTHENTICITY (the year I read your Shame book)
2010: COURAGE (to be who I am meant to be)
2011: INTENTIONAL
